Choose Love
Class: Advisory
Teacher: Mrs. Alexander
The choose love assignment taught me about perspective talking, vocabulary, emotional intelligence, courage, accountability, affirmations, and how to make a resume. While working on this assignment I incorporated past and present experiences into the lessons. Some slides worked on picking a quote and reflecting on what it means to me, while others shows pictures of moments that are important to me. This assignment taught me communicational skills, self-directional skills, finical, economic, and business literacy skills, and informational skills.
I choose this work sample because I am proud of the information I learned and the hard work I put into creating this power-point.
Informational skills
Informational skills are applying relevant computer and handheld technology across the curriculum and integrating new technology. Informational skills are also where you read and understand a wide range of literary and informational texts for a variety of purposes and apply a variety of appropriate research methods across the curriculum. I used informational skills when completing this assignment because I researched vocabulary and emotional intelligence using my computer and technology skills. I challenged myself by not using the first resource I found. I looked through multiple educational websites to find the most accurate information that integrated best with this assignment. I now know that I should look through multiple resources every time I am working on a project that requires research!
Finical, economic, and business literacy skills
Finical, economic, and business literacy skills are when you learn about business processes, entrepreneurial spirit, and the economic forces that drive today’s economy. I used finical, economic, and business literacy skills when I made a resume for this assignment. I learned what are necessities to have on a resume, as well as what distractions are put on resumes that don't help. Making a resume is a skill I had never done before. By accomplishing this task I grew a better understanding of what businesses look for when hiring people. I am grateful for learning this skill because since making this resume I have gotten a job!
Self directional skills
Self-directional skills are the ability to understand and monitor my own learning needs and to goal-set. I used self-directional skills when completing this project by making a plan for myself to accomplish my learning goals. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, I would watch the informational video about the directions for the class that Mrs. Alexander made. Then I would do some research about the assignments and PowerPoint slides that needed to be created. Once I got a good understanding of what material I wanted in my PowerPoint, I started creating it. This plan each week took trial and error. In the beginning, I didn't set any certain time to work on this project, and then I would wait until Friday to complete the work for the whole week. I quickly learned that that method wasn't going to help me strive in my academic performance. From now on I will create an outline or set a time of when I want to work on a project.
Communicational skills
Communicational skills are having the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences for different purposes, using oral, written, and nonverbal communication. I used communication skills to complete this project by learning about asynchronous classes. This project was made for advisory which got switched to an asynchronous class. By not having a set zoom or google meets time to ask questions I had to adapt to a new learning environment. I learned that I still have ways to communicate with teachers such as emailing or planning a time for an in-person meeting. Switching to an asynchronous class has taught me that I like learning on my own time and having more freedom about when I should work on my assignments. In the future, I will make sure to use other resources to help me communicate my needs when necessary.
Final thoughts
Overall, this project helped me learn more about communicational skills, self-directional skills, finical, economic, and business literacy skills, and informational skills. I challenged myself to grow and learn ways to improve these skills by asking questions, learning how to complete better research, and figure out my learning needs and what methods best support those needs. This project relates to previous projects because I have used these skills before. There were moments of difficulty such as having poor self directional skills, but I over-came that. Next time I would improve this project by making sure to use other resources to help me communicate, create an outline of time to work on a project, learning what are unnecessary topics on projects, and using better resources and apply this knowledge to future learning.
